Nurturing Your Relationship: Connecting with Your Partner During Wedding Planning

category:

Planning a wedding or an elopement is such an exciting time! However, amidst the hustle and bustle of dress fittings, venue selections, and guest lists, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters: your relationship with your partner. As you embark on this transformative journey together, it’s essential to prioritize connection and communication to strengthen your bond and create a solid foundation for your marriage and so you can actually, whole heartedly enjoy the biggest day of your lives! Here are some tips on how to connect with your partner before your wedding and throughout the planning process:

SET INTENTIONS

Before doing anything, have a date and talk about what you want this process to feel like. Ask each other questions like, “what do you want the planning experience to be like?” and set intentions and actions to align with your most ideal experience. If something isn’t aligning with that experience throughout the planning process, take a step back, re-center with each other on those intentions and figure out how to tackle the task in a way that will align with your ideal experience. Everyone wants to have a smooth planning process but being on the same page from the very beginning is the best way to do that.

SET ASIDE QUALITY TIME

Amidst the chaos wedding planning can often bring, carve out dedicated time to spend with your partner. If you can, decide which day of the week you intend on having quality time together. Whether it’s a weekly date night, a leisurely walk in the park, or a cozy evening at home, prioritize quality time together, where you’re not talking about wedding planning. Use this time to reconnect, unwind, and remind yourselves of the love and commitment that brought you together in the first place.

COMMUNICATE OPENLY AND HONESTLY

We all know communication is key to a successful relationship. Communication, and especially effective communication, during the wedding planning process is important to minimize frustrations, confusion or miscommunications. Be open and honest with each other about your hopes, dreams, and concerns regarding the wedding, be kind, open and honest throughout the process and expressing the things you maybe don’t align on and how you can meet each other in the middle. Talk about how you’ll tackle family opinions or oppositions together. Talk through your expectations, preferences, and boundaries, and listen to your partner’s perspective. Remember that compromise is essential, and finding common ground can strengthen your bond.

DELEGATE

You know that saying, “it takes a village”? It really does take a village to tackle many things throughout life and planning a wedding is one of them. Share the workload with your partner. Divide tasks and responsibilities based on each other’s strengths and interests, and collaborate as a team to bring your vision to life. By working together towards a common goal, you’ll not only lighten the load but also strengthen your sense of partnership and unity. If you have reliable healthy relationships with family, ask them for help and if you have bridal parties, use them, too.

THIS IS A SHARED EXPERIENCE

Planning is as an opportunity to create memories together. Go to vendor meetings together, embark on venue tours, and make decisions as a team. Embrace the journey of planning your wedding as a reflection of your partnership, and cherish the moments of laughter, excitement, and joy along the way. Remember, this is supposed to be fun!

SELF CARE

While planning should be fun, it may not always be and can be stressful. Prioritize self care to maintain your mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Encourage each other to participate in self care activities like exercise, time by the ocean or in the water, hiking, watch movies if you’re a movie person, spend time in a garden- whatever will help you relax. Support each other through moments of stress and overwhelm, and remind yourselves to prioritize your health and happiness above the planning.

YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED, WOOHOO!!!

We all dream of the day we get married, but the real magic lies in the connection and love you share with each other. By prioritizing communication, collaboration, and quality time together, you can strengthen your bond and create a solid foundation for a lifetime of love and happiness and that’s truly what you want to start forever with. So take a deep breath, hold hands, and embrace the journey ahead together!
